Nothing Truly to Report, Yet Here's a Post

It's been a while since I have given a narrative of events, whether fictional or not, in my life. Lately, all has been rather docile in my life. Boring days full of the tedious duties we all face. The past couple of weeks have been a consistent thread of foundation work. Nothing fancy to write about, nothing interesting to read.

At home, we have been continuing the preparation for the long awaited arrival of the latest addition to my clan. All is set. Bags are packed, numbers are programmed in phones, bets have been taken. Not to worry, if you wish to throw your money down, the pool is still open. An insider tip, I would lay my money down quickly.

Work has been a constant battle of learning new skills while maintaining news coverage. Our station has not been immune to the industries current ailment. Cuts have been "strategically" made in the shop in an attempt to increase efficiency while increasing profit. It has been tense, thought the tension seems to be decreasing somewhat. The axe is ever in our thoughts as each of us try to soldier on with eyes searching the horizon, web sites, want ads, and our backs.

During the past couple of weeks I have been learning to "booth" the morning show. Yes, this is a producer's job, but the morning producer has to take vacation sometime. With Heather going on maternity leave shortly, the morning producer wanted to get in some time off before losing the ability to vacation while she is away. And since Heather's maternal situation is partially my fault, it is my responsibility to pick up the slack and offer my services in other fields that will allow the producer to take his vacation time.

"Boothing" the show isn't bad. I was a nervous wreck the first few times I did it, but I am pretty comfortable with it now. It was so bad at one point that I was actually dreaming about boothing my own dream. Weird.

Recently, I missed my first on-call story EVER. This is not holding well with me. Though I have not been in the broadcast industry for long, 2 years now, I have prided myself on not missing a breaking news story on my watch and always answering my phone. I went to bed Friday night thinking my phone's volume was all the way up only to find the phone on vibrate and four missed calls Saturday morning. Turns out a murder took place only an hour after I went to bed. Three people shot, one dead from it. To make matters worse, the one who was killed was a former Marshall football player. In short, I was not fun to be around this weekend, though I tried to put out of my head.

We had some family portraits taken Saturday evening. I wanted some professional photos taken before Heather gave birth. They seemed to turn out really good. We are supposed to get them in July 18th. We purchased a large package, so there should be no shortage of photos for family and friends.

Well, cowboys and cowgirls that is all the news I have here on the home front. Shouldn't be too much longer until I post about the birth of the yet unnamed Hall.
