We can't avoid political discussions these days with all the huff and puff being blown all over the country involving the debates, especially the Democratic debates. These events, in which I see as a major ( and quite frankly, a genius) move by the democratic party to ensure media attention is directed towards them, only add to my certainty that political parties should be abolished altogether.
Political parties are, in essence, supposed to be a group voice for the people.....Isn't that what representatives are for? Congress? The president? Collectively, the government is the voice of the people, this is the reason for voting. We vote to choose the candidate that is closest to our voice, beliefs, and values. Why would you need a political party to do this? Can you not decide which candidate best suits your beliefs? Do you really need a group to tell you what it is that you believe this country needs?
When people ask me what affiliation I am, I usually tell them I am a conservative, which in turn they believe to be a Republican. Yes, I am registered Republican, but that is not necessarily a true representation of my values or beliefs. I am a conservative, I believe that the Constitution should stand as is. I believe that if we don't abide by the writing of our forefathers, and if we allow the sacred laws in which it holds to be whittled away by the erosion of our own people and the government in which has taken advantage of the ignorance of the majority, America will not hold.
Political parties add to this erosion. Political parties take away individuality, allow for classification, judgement, ignorance, and prejudice. When people assume that I am a Republican, I am automatically classified as one who does not care about the poor, a gun-toting christian ready to strike out in a holy war against persons who oppose me. If I should say that I am a Democrat, you would assume that I am a tree-hugging, worker-friendly person who hates capitalism. Why would you pigeon-toe me like that? Why lump me in one category and discard the fact that I am a human being capable of harboring many interests, many beliefs, and hold true to multiple values that I believe are connected or are somehow beneficial my country's survival?
In his farewell address, George Washington warned of political parties. My views follow his on this matter, and I truly believe that our republic, this nation of united states, cultures, races, and religions should heed his words. Why create further reasons for disassociation, when we should be working to unite all of our people in the common good of this nation and us.
I have included a part of his speech that is directly associated with this rant. If you wish to read the whole speech here is a link; http://www.earlyamerica.com/earlyamerica/milestones/farewell/text.html
"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty."
George Washington Sept. 17, 1796
Just by reading the Constitution, you can see that our founding fathers never intended this country to have political parties, and that the race for the presidency is a farse. Political parties have a derogatory affect on the election process, by engaging in unfair tactics from elected officials voting for thier particular party's candidate instead of the best person for the job.
Amendment XII
The electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate;--The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;--the person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President. The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.
Here is another interesting link that lists very good reasons a two-party system doesn't work

Why not discover your own voice instead of following a group of close-minded, self-indulgent, selfish fools who's only mission is to keep your mind distracted and under thier control. If you should reason to leave the school of group thought, I think you might find yourself a member of a larger, better party and that party will be of true american patriots.
